PASCAL Schools Lemesos organize the 4th Annual High School Mock Trial which will take place on Saturday 04/11/2023 and Sunday 05/11/2023. The Mock Trial is organized in cooperation with esteemed legal professionals from the Cyprus Bar Association.
A high school mock trial is an imitation trial which aims to give the opportunity to pupils to act as lawyers and witnesses in simulated civil and criminal trials before actual judges and panels of juries. It is designed to introduce pupils to the legal system by providing a challenging, academic competition in the English language. This will enable participating pupils to improve their oratory, language and critical thinking skills.
In this year’s preliminary round on Saturday 04/11, there will be a maximum of 5 civil or criminal cases. In each case, two schools will compete. Thus, a total of 10 schools can participate in the competition. The 5 winning schools will move on to the final round which will take place on Sunday 05/11 while the delegates of the remaining 5 schools can participate as jurors.
Participating schools can create a delegation of 5-6 pupils (ages 15-18). The delegation will be designated by the organisers as either the Defense team or the Prosecution team in a particular civil or criminal case. Moreover, schools interested can optionally bring as many pupils as they want as jurors. All participants will receive certificates while the winning lawyers will receive internships at A.G. Erotokritou LCC.
