On the last day of lessons before First Semester Examinations, the 8th of December 2023, PASCAL Private English School Lefkosia pupils and teachers devoted some time to the consideration of others less fortunate as they undertook to prepare Christmas Charity Gift boxes. At the end of each year, pupils are asked to select a charity they would like to donate to, and they then prepare ‘gift boxes’ full of suitable donations together with their Form teachers as a class.
This year the school community managed to collect items, and raise funds, for eight local families via the Adopt a Family programme, two dog shelters – Hope for Homeless and 2nd Chance Dogs, CARITAS, the Makarios Children’s Hospital Oncology Ward, Αγκαλιάζω με Αγάπη, and they also helped rescue an abandoned cat via the payment of vet fees. The donations ranged from supermarket vouchers to toys, books, solid food items, used clothing and blankets and bedding for the animals, which were all personally delivered and handed over by pupils and members of staff.
The time and effort put into filling and decorating the individual boxes is a clear reflection of the compassion and empathy that has been instilled among the pupils by the school, which is truly praiseworthy. This initiative, forms part of an ongoing effort to unite young people through shared, humanistic endeavours to cultivate invaluable skills and qualities which will enable them to develop into responsible and empowered citizens of society, thus playing a crucial part in shaping the world.
