ONE OF THE BIGGEST EDUCATIONAL ROBOTS IN THE WORLD HAS BEEN BUILT BY PASCAL English School Larnaka

This is “ASTRO 1”, an educational platform that combines robotics and space science. “ASTRO 1” is an educational robotic platform ‘STEAM,’ in which students can build devices and add various functions to it. At the same time, teachers have the opportunity to use the platform in order to combine material from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth of Cyprus with this robot, and demonstrate to students how theory becomes a practice for problem solving.

“ASTRO 1” also functions as a mobile satellite station from which students can receive live videos from the micro-satellites they send into the stratosphere.

The “ASTRO 1” weighs about 1400 kg, has a perimeter of 10m and a height of 3m. Additionally, it moves with the help of 24 hydraulic motors. It was created after mind mapping sessions with students, participating in the PASCAL SPACE STEAM EDUCATION programme.

The robot’s unique spider-like design allows it to move easily, and be placed on any surface using minimal energy.

“ASTRO 1” is now exhibited in Europe Square (Plateia Europis) in Larnaca.
