Over 11th and 12th of March, the PASCAL Lefkosia robotics team, PASCAL Lefkosia Eagles, participated in the FIRST Tech Challenge Cyprus 2023. The team came first, winning the Inspire Award, out of 12 teams that competed. Thus, PASCAL Lefkosia Eagles qualified for the USA First Tech Challenge in Houston, Texas, between 19th and 22nd of April 2023; when they will get to compete and cooperate with other Inspire Award winners from around the world.
Tigran Arutyunyan, Constantinos Timinis, Denis Zenios, Andreas Iacovou, Antreas Ioannou, Aimilianos Pozotos, Erik Naumecs, Eleni Vasileiou, Andrea Vasileiou, and Elisaveta Orekhova are the students who chose to participate in PASCAL Robotics team under the guidance of Mr. Loucas Ioannou and Mr. Stoyan Stoyanova a few months ago. Participation meant a lot of devotion and many weekends of hard work.
Mr. Ioannou, the Head of PASCAL Schools Lekfosia Computing Department, went on to say “I am proud of my students; they took initiative and spent extra hours to achieve this great accomplishment. I am very happy that we get to experience the international level in Houston. Apart from the experience that they have gained, this team has added an important asset to their portfolio, which will be useful when they apply to universities. I would like to give special thanks to our Parents and Guardians Association, P.A.S Toys and Electric Scooter Repair Cy, who supported us.”
FIRST Tech Challenge Cyprus 2023 is an international student competition on designing, building, programming, and operating robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge. Students can code in a variety of levels of Java-based programming and participants are eligible to apply for $80M in college scholarships. The competition was under the umbrella of the Achievement Foundation for Talented and Gifted Youth and various tech organizations, such as Wargaming, and Cablenet, supported the event.
Dr Alexis Andreou, Director of PASCAL Schools Lekfosia, focused on the benefits of FIRST Tech Challenge Cyprus 2023,” Our main goal is to keep our students highly motivated to aim high. Our students successfully collaborated and shared ideas, but most importantly they had fun.”
